Construction Update

After years of planning and praying, LPPC has begun renovation work on Phase 1-A of our Master Plan.

Work began last week on the installation of over 30 new windows in our second floor Sunday school rooms. These Energy Star rated, Low E glazed, high efficiency windows will replace the old inefficient and hard-to-use windows which were installed when the rooms were first built.

THIS MONDAY, June 9, 2008, work will truly begin, and we will all need to adjust as changes take place. Our contractor, Branch Valley Associates, will begin the removal of all the old floor tiles on the second floor as well as in the first floor hallway by the Communications Center. This will take 2 weeks; and while this work is going on, the entire second floor and the Communications Center hallway will be sealed off. This will protect the rest of the church from dust and debris. All work being done will be in accordance with applicable removal procedures and regulations.

STARTING ABOUT JUNE 16, 2008, demolition in the stage area, Communications Center area, and the entire second floor will begin. This will all be in preparation for new floors, ceilings, lighting, heating system, and of course, new bathrooms.

IT IS ANTICIPATED that all of the above work will be completed by early September for the start of Sunday School and Preschool. The conversion of the present first floor bathrooms into new office space will then start and take an additional month.

IMMEDIATE CHANGES:

  • Beginning June 9th, the atrium door (main entrance) will provide access only to the elevator. There will be no access to Williams Hall, the church offices or to the Sanctuary from this entrance. The only access will be to the elevator.
  • Beginning June 9th, access for staff and visitors to the church offices will be through the side door next to the atrium which goes through Pastor Smith’s current office. This access will remain in effect during the entire construction process. In short time, this office will become Linda Hobbs’ and the reception volunteer area.
  • Access to the East Wing (Williams Hall, Rowland Parlor, Kitchen, Library, Kathy Huber’s office and CE Resource) will be through the kitchen door.
  • On Sunday, June 15th, access to the church Sanctuary will only be through the main red front doors or the two side doors of the Sanctuary. Access will still be available on this day to the elevator only through the Atrium entrance.
  • After the floors are removed in the Communication Center hallway, a partition will be installed and somewhat restricted access to that area will be restored. Updates on all progress will be printed in the Hilltop Weekly.
  • Even after the atrium entrance is restored for Sunday worship services, the weekday entrance into the church will continue to be through the side door into Linda Hobbs’ office/reception area.
  • The entire second floor will remain closed for the length of the project.

As things progress, we will make every effort to keep everyone up-to-date. There will be many changes and some inconveniences, but we have been waiting a long time for this. Let’s celebrate the changes and the blessing this Capital Campaign has brought.

May we Catch the Vision...and (literally) Open New Doors!

Capital Campaign Update

The Session met in a special meeting on May 14,
2008. After reviewing the recommendation from the
building committee, they voted approval for the hiring of a
general contractor. We have now signed a contract with
Branch Valley Associates of Harleysville for a price of
$651,333.00. Work to be preformed, under this contract, is
the renovations in Phase 1a of the Master Plan. This work
includes the following:

Second Floor:
Renovation of the classrooms, bathrooms and
music room. This includes new flooring, ceilings, lighting,
doors, hot water heating system. Installation of Handicap
lift at second floor level change. Creation of new office
areas for Pre-School Dir. and Children’s Min. Director and
Christian Education resource room.

First Floor:
Conversion of the stage and communication center
to new bathrooms and storage area. Upgrade of the fire
alarm system. Conversion of the old first floor bathrooms
to office space and storage.
The cost for these renovations, although towards
the high end, is within the original budget provided by the
architect in the Master Plan.
This work will begin on June 9, 2008 and continue
through the summer. The first phase of the work will be
the second floor and new first floor bathrooms. Work will
be completed by September 1, 2008. This will enable us to
start our fall programs on time. Once this is completed the
conversion of the old first floor bathrooms will begin and
be completed by the end of September.
Please note that the entrance to the building,
during the week, will be changed. The glass atrium
doorway will be closed and entrance will be through the
door just to the right of the atrium. This is the doorway
that currently leads to the senior ministers office. Do not
worry, you will not be entering into Peter’s office. The
office assignments, in the administration area, will be
changed to accommodate this new entrance.
There may be other temporary changes needed to
accommodate the construction. We will provide
temporary signs to direct you in that event.
The Architect and the Civil Engineer continue
work on the designs and approvals needed for the new
Narthex.

We thank everyone for their generous giving to the
Capital Campaign Fund. Watch this summer as we,
as a congregation, begin the process of turning the
Vision to Reality.

Catch the Vision … Open New Doors!

We all love our distinctive red doors! A long standing symbol of LPPC’s rich history “on top of the hill,” the doors are combined with an arched window — a striking architectural feature of the new church narthex. Bridging the old with the new, the logo presents these features in a stylized fashion that envisions the future while connecting us with the past.
